Description of Invention

Effective note-taking is a crucial component in student academics, where the practice of note-taking is associated with higher academic achievements. Alongside the advancement of technology, more and more students have started to shift from longhand notes to typed notes while universities have implemented the use of education tools such as Google Workspace, which comes with a variety of online collaborative applications such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. However, typed notes have some disadvantages, where longhand notes are found to produce more comprehensive notes, incorporating signals and visuals, when compared to those using laptops. Therefore, a text and item generator add-on for Google Docs is proposed to solve the problem. The Google Docs add-on allows users to generate text and items such as text presets, table presets, and mind maps. The requirements, implementation, and testing of the Google Docs add-on will be discussed. Hence, a Google Docs add-on has been developed using Apps Script as the programming language, Google Cloud Platform for cloud computing, Google Cloud SQL for MySQL as the database, and QuickChart for creating mind maps. Functional testing and user acceptance survey is done, and the results are discussed.
