Description of Invention
Discharge of heavy metal ions into drinking water sources is a serious health and life-threatening issue. Hence, surface-modified magnetite (Fe3O4) particles are being researched extensively as one of the adsorbents for cleaning As contaminated water due to its favourable magnetic properties. Studies detailing the usage of ceria-coated-Fe3O4 particles are scarce. Furthermore, elucidating effects of various synthesis parameters on the particle properties is important in the design of adsorbents with high adsorption capacities. In this research, the Fe3O4 particles were synthesised by the co-precipitation technique followed by ceria-coating under varying experimental parameters to diversify the nanoparticles sizes. The synthesised particles were subsequently characterised by various characterisation equipment to investigate their properties.
