Description of Invention
The discovery of geopolymer concrete has been of interest due to its environmentally friendly nature, excellent mechanical properties and high durability. This current study was performed to explore the effect of TPU nanocomposite addition on the performance of geopolymer concrete to be used in the construction industry. The geopolymer matrix has been reinforced with prepared TPU/Jute CNFs Nanocomposites (0, 3, 6 and 9 wt.%) through normal mixing method and cured at 4 different temperatures (room temperature, 60o, 100o and 140oC). A systematic study was performed to study the water absorption, microstructure, compressive and split tensile properties of the neat geopolymer and prepared geopolymer/TPU nanocomposites concrete. Water absorption rates were decreased with the increases of curing temperature up to 100oC with 0.59% at 6wt% of TPU nanocomposites. This result did tallies with the microstructural analysis of the prepared geopolymer/TPU nanocomposites concrete where the geopolymer matrix of geopolymer/TPU nanocomposites (6wt%) appeared dense at 100oC of curing temperature. A similar trend is shown in the compressive and split tensile strength where the highest strength is owned by the geopolymer/TPU nanocomposites (6wt%) at 100oC curing temperature with 76.1 Mpa and 4.85 Mpa respectively.
