Description of Invention

Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSCs) are a cost effective alternative to tradition silicon solar cells, but they often rely on metal based dyes that are expensive and many of which can be toxic. This project explores more sustainable and ‘green’ alternatives—in the form of plant and fruit extracts—to our metal sensitisers. Natural dyes from mangosteen, thyme, papaya etc., were prepared using ethanol based extraction, and tested as sensitisers.
